Measles Guidance for Patients
We are currently seeing an increase in measles cases across the UK. Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that can spread easily, particularly among unvaccinated individuals.
Symptoms to look out for include:
- High fever
- Runny or blocked nose
- Cough
- Red, sore eyes
- A blotchy red-brown rash (usually starting on the face and spreading)
If you think you or your child may have measles, please do not attend Woodgrange Medical Practice in person.
Vaccination is the best protection. The MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine is safe and effective, and two doses provide long-lasting protection. If you or your child are not fully vaccinated, please contact us to arrange an appointment.
Important: Measles can be more serious for babies, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. If you have been in contact with someone with measles and are in one of these groups, please seek advice urgently.
